How You Get Here

Trains, planes and automobiles. Here's everything we know about getting yourselves to coastal Connecticut in December.

How to get here

Pick your route.

About 2.5 to 3 hours from Brooklyn, depending on traffic and time of day. Take I-95 North the whole way; exit 89 or 90 (both work!) for Mystic.

Good to know

Friday-afternoon traffic leaving NYC can be very real, any time of the year. Leaving before 1pm makes a real difference.

A low-stress way to get from NYC to Mystic. Amtrak Northeast Regional from Penn Station to Mystic Station takes about 2h 50m and drops you a 10-minute walk from downtown.

The Acela is faster (~2h 15m) but doesn't usually stop in Mystic — check the schedule. You can also take the Acela to New London and grab a 15-minute Uber from there.

Booking

Book early for deals — December weekends fill up. Amtrak.com · search "Mystic, CT (MYS)".

If you're flying in from far away, New York's three airports (JFK, LGA, EWR) give you the most options. Then it's a rental car east to Mystic — figure on 4 hours from wheels-down, accounting for time to gather the car and get out of airport traffic. See the 'by car' advice above.

A regional option, closer than New York (though, probably involving a connecting flight):

Bradley International (BDL) — Hartford. About 1h 30m drive south to Mystic. Best for connecting flights through major carriers.

T.F. Green (PVD) in Providence, Rhode Island, is genuinely closer than New York — about 50 minutes by car. JetBlue and Southwest both fly heavily here.

Rent a car or grab an Uber for the drive south on I-95.

Boston Logan (BOS) is a major hub with every domestic carrier. From Logan Airport it's about 2 - 2.5 hours south to Mystic on I-95 / I-93.

Recommended path

Pick up a rental car at the airport and drive south, or take the Amtrak Northeast Regional from Boston's South Station straight to Mystic (~2h 30m). Boston's South Station (Amtrak Station) takes about 25-35 minutes to get to from Boston Logan Airport via a shuttle bus (Silver Line).

Where to stay

A few good rooms.

Other options

If the block fills up.

A few other places we'd happily stay ourselves.
